Suede type leathers

This general term contains all types of leather with a buffed usage side.

Amongst them are suede, nubuk and buckskin leathers. It is basically irrelevant if the suede types are produced from full-grains or splits or from different hides / animals. The flesh side (the side pointing towards the body of the animal) is buffed/sueded during the production of suedes. A fibrous surface is generated. Nubuk leather is buffed from the grain side (hair side) but not completely removed and the hair pores shall not be fully removed so that the natural grain /pores remain visible

Velourleder

Nubuk Leather

Leather that has been buffed from the grain-/hair-side in a way so that the natural grain pattern is still visible but a silky-soft, fine-buffed surface with short fibres is generated. The remnants of the hair holes / pores are the natural grain pattern of nubuk leathers which allow a definite identification of the grain side. Nubuk leather is slightly buffed from the grain side (hair side) and not ground off, the hair pores are not to be removed completely and the natural grain / pores must remain visible.
Special characteristics of nubuk leathers are the velvet-like touch and the scratch inclinations.  Nubuk leather can be produced from nearly all animal skins/hides. Certain animal hides are better suited for the production of nubuk leathers due to the histological differences of the hides/skins. The difference shows up especially in the fiber length / buffability of the grain side. The shorter the the fibres are buffed the higher in value will the nubuk leather be conceived and the more pronounced will the nubuk-typical scratch inclination be.

Buckskin

Buckskin is the buffed full-grain of treated deer, reindeer, kangaroo, antelope, gazelle, elk, buffalo and chamois skins. It is used as clothing, bag-maker and shoe-upper leather.
